Lightningstrike stared out at the border with ValleyClan. He had lots of suspicion toward the rival Clan, but he had not heard much of the other Clan. He enjoyed the current peace and harmony between the five Clans, but he knew that, as deputy of IslandClan , he could never be too sure of what the other Clans's intentions were. He hoped that some drama happened soon. He thought peace was fine, but it got boring sometimes. He had decided to watch from the line forests of IslandClan to watch and ValleyClan patrols, and make sure that they did not cross the border. He had been there a while, and no cats had been spotted yet. He was very proud of IslandClan. He was the only deputy of the newer Clan. He remembered the time when he was Lightning, and his leader Redstar was named Red. He also remembered the fights between the current Clans over where the Clan would live. He remembered how they all finally agreed to give them this bit of the land. It was not much, but it served them well. It was full of prey and shelter. He knew the Clans were now at peace, as it had been for moons. But, he knew that it was his job to protect the new Clan in case of danger. A while later, he heard a cat padding through the pine forests behind him. Alert , he sniffed the air. Then , he relaxed. It was one of IslandClan's cats.

A huge shape moved among the thick pine trees of IslandClan territory, thick white fur standing out sharply against the dark green taht surrounded the she-cat. Grey pointed paws fell loud, even on the soft, dying floor of pine nettles that layered the dirt below. Sky blue eyes were glistening slightly in the dying sunlight, as the sky darkened slightly and sunset appearedtothe west. Mistcloud felt the cold of nighttime sneaking into the air, but her thick white fur held out all possible cold and set it settled on her fluffy second skin without penetrating. A ginger and white shape caught her half-looking blue gaze, and for a second the brute of a she-cat stopped dead and stared through the thick trees. Her alertness was in vain, however, as she soon realized it was Lightningstrike, IslandClan's deputy. Padding forward, she called out to the tom.
"Hi there, Lightningstrike," she growled kindly to the deputy, though her voice was gruff and still sounded a little aggresive. Okay, she wasn't the nicest cat in IslandClan. No cherriness was in her voice. But, she respected her deputy, so her voice was plain with a little happiness hinting the edges. Only a little, but Lightningstrike should be flattered.

Lightningstrike turned and saw Mistcloud. She was one of the newer cats of the Clan, only having been here a third of her life. But, despite her somewhat rudeness and aggressiveness, she seemed loyal. "Hello Mistcloud," he mewed, dipping his head in respect. H knew Mistcloud had had a difficult past, both her parents killed by BeachClan. He snarled as he thought of those mange-pelts. They say they believe in peace and harmony, but in reality, they were more ambitious and aggressive than IslandClan, one of the fiercest Clans. They had taken lots of territory, leaving IslandClan with only a bit of land. He knew that if he ever met a BeachClan cat in battle, he would rip it to shreds.

The large she-cat moved towards her deuty with a respectful nod of her head, seeing in his eyes that he was thinking about BeachClan. Mistcloud hated the worthless balls of fluff. Her history with BeachClan wasn't the greatest, though she tried not to show it. Her story was probably quite obviously to most of her Clan though, between her growling and unsheathing her claws everytime a BeachClanner walked past, and the insults she would mumble everytime someone mentioned the fox-hearts, gave the game away a little. Sitting down heavily beside Lightningstrike, she glanced at him with sky-blue eyes.
"How are things going?Being deputy and all?" she asked roughly, digging her sharp claws into the soft pine needles beneath her paws.

Lightningstrike thought a moment. "Things are going great. I love being deputy. I just can't wait for something interesting to happen. You know, since IslandClan formed, its just been repetition. On our journey, new things happened every day." He shuddered, remembering his travels. They had met another large group of hostile cats, and had killed some of their cats. They had had better times, though, like when they discovered the Clans, or when the first new leaf had begun, and the snow had thawed on the trees. It had been so beautiful. But now, he had never seen anything new. The entire territory was only pine forests, with nothing eventful ever happening. "So, how are you?"

The huge she-cat nodded at the deputy's words, glad that things were going well for him. Life as a Clan cat was very repetitive, but the warrior didn't miss the danger and excitement of rogue life. After all, it had killed half of her family and left her confused and hurting. BeachClan had been there for her then, but now it felt to Mistcloud like it had been through guilty conscientious. Now, IslandClan was here for her. So, she would be there for it.
"Life is... good," she said, in answer to the tom's question. "I'm looking forward to that grumpy medicine cat of our's getting a sense of humour, but I don't miss my former Clan or my rogue life." She refused to say BeachClan's out loud. She hated them. Can you tell?

"I'm glad to hear that. I want all of my Clanmates to feel comfortable, but the newest ones should be most comfortable with our Clan. I hope you stay with us a long time." He looked away for a moment, staring into the trees. He could sense something out there. "Something's wrong." He muttered to Mistcloud. He watched unblinkingly, and saw a patrol of warriors chase a dog into IslandClan territory. Lightningstrike crouched low, wondering what ValleyClan was doing. They were trying to ambush them! Using dogs! That's just like them, he thought to himself. He jumped on the dog, as the patrol ran away. He swatted at it, and it bit his flank. Blood oozed from his new gash. "Mistcloud! Help me!"

The grey-pointed she-cat had spotted the shapes of ValleyClan through the trees, but though nothing of it and listened to Lightningstrike intently. When the shapes had changed, becoming cats and a dog, Mistcloud was dumnstruck by the other Clan's dirty trick. As the deputy threw himself at the huge animal, which had no been chased over the border, the she-cat detached her claws from the ground and leapt at the dog, flying straight over the black and white tom and landing squarely on the enemy animal's back, feeling it's legs quiver under her sudden weight.
"Get away from my deputy!" she yowled, her claws opening fresh, bleeding gashes in the dog's side. Without realizing, both herself and the animal had fell over the border. "Hey!" came a voice, sharp from ValleyClan's territory. "What are you doing!? You're bringing a dog onto our territory!" The pale ginger shape of Dawnfall, ValleyClan's medicine cat, stood out against the trees, flames leaping in her clouded green eyes. Well, eye, to be more specific. This anger quickly calmed when the scent and sight of blood threw her into medicine cat mode. "Sweet StarClan," she ywlped, darting to be at the side of IslandClan's deputy, despite it putting her in the other Clan's territory. "What happened? You look like you fell out of a tree into a do-" she stopped, realizing the tom had fought a dog. "Right, right, I need cobwebs, A lot of them. Hey! Hey you!" Mistcloud's fur was thick with the blood of herself and dog she'd come close to ripping to pieces, which had now been scared back into ValleyClan's territory after she had nearly bit it's tail off. "Whatever your name is-" "Mistcloud," the pale-pointed, long-furred she-cat muttured, licking the scarlet liquid from her thick fur. "-Find me some cobwebs! Now! And make sure you don't bring the spider with you!" Turning back to Lightningstorm, she gave a slight smile, understanding how strange it must be to see a pale she-cat with a scar covering half her face. Oh well. "I don't see why we need you," Mistcloud grumbled, searching for the sticky white spiderwebs Dawnfall had asked for. "Because he's losing more blood than he has to spare!" she hissed, anger bubbling beneath her non-existent calm exterior. "We have our own medicine cat, you know," Mistcloud growled. "By the time he got here, your deputy would be dead," Dawnfall snapped, turning back to Lightningstrike for a final time, ignoring the agressive white she-cat's grumbles.

Lightningstrike looked up at the pale ginger she-cat Dawnfall, ValleyClan's medicine cat. What was she doing? ValleyClan always showed no mercy? Although, he realized, all medicine cats, no matter what Clan they were in, could not say no to an injured cat, no matter what Clan they belonged to. "Thank you." He murmured at the medicine cat. He closed his eyes while Dawnfall did her work. He thanked StarClan that she had been there at the right time. As for the dog, he would bring it up at the next Gathering. ValleyClan needed to be punished for it, as they purposely chased the dog into IslandClan territory.

ValleyClan's medicine cat pressed the thick wad of cobwebs to the deputy's wound, wondering what her Clanmates had been thinking. After all, who would chase a dog onto another Clan's territory? It was probably Brambleblaze's doing. Ever since the tom had joined, he had only caused trouble. Dawnfall wouldn't be sorry to see the back end of him. He'd left his whole family to join an enemy Clan, and he wouldn't tell anyone why. It didn't give the she-cat a very good first impression.
"You're lucky ValleyClan is running low on herbs," she told the deputy as he thanked her. "I was coming out to collect some marigold. There's a healthy clump right on the border, which I've been nursing for moons, and we were running low on infection-stopping herbs." she flicked her white-tipped tail towards a clump of yellow and orange petals nearby. "In fact, you! Mistcloud, if that's your name, grab some of those marigold petals - gently! - and give them here." Grumbling, the mostly white she-cat did as she was told and haded the bright herb to Dawnfall, who began to few them up. "Good. Now, if you clean off that fur of your's, I'll do your wounds next." "I don't need you to do my wounds," Mistcloud growled in reply. "Then go die in a bush," the medicine cat hissed, her temper snapping in half. "And do it quietly." Mutturing curses, the IslandClan warrior padded away a few paces, before sitting down heavily and lapping at her fur. Dawnfall continued to treat Lightninstrike's wound, laying cobwebs over it to keep the poultice in place.

Lightningstrike was surprised that the medicine cat was giving so much away about her Clan. Low on herbs? Collecting marigold at this patch? Why would any cat give all that away to another Clan cat? He could easily use that against them, as it shows weakness. He decided not to though. Dawnfall had saved his life. The least he could do was not make her pay for telling him all this. He looked up at Mistcloud, who had refused to be treated. "Let her treat you. It can only help. You might think it's not anything, but it could be infected later." Then, he realized that he had spoken softly. He cleared his throat, and spoke more gruffly. "And that's an order, as your deputy."

Mistcloud grumbled again and continued to lap at the dried scarlet liquid that tangled her fur. She wasn't sure which was worse getting. getting treated by the grumpy should-be-elder that was IslandClan's medicine cat, or being forced to be treated by some kit who looked like she'd gotten into a fight with a thorn bush as a newborn and lost. But, she listened to her deputy and continued cleaning herself, grumbling thoughts inside her head.
The pale ginger she-cat nodded gratefully at the deputy, pressing cobwebs down forcefully onto his wound. Her clouded green eye(s) stared carefully at the wound, checking to see if any dirt or fur had entered the tom's bloodstream.
"You should be fine," she told him, taking the rest of the marigold leaves and standing up, shaking out her pale fur. "You'll probably have a nice scar - both of you - but scars of a sign of bravery, right?" She laughed inwardly at the irony of such a quite coming from a she-cat who's scar was from stupidity, not bravery. She wondered if the slip-up would provoke Lightningstrike to ask what had happened. Dawnfall padded to Mistcloud and repeated the process on the she-cat's wounds, listening as she hissed at the stinging of the marigold poultice.

Lightningstrike glanced at Mistcloud, glad that she had followed his order, and was allowing Dawnfall to treat her. He listened happily as she told him he would have a scar, but no infection. He wondered what had happened to Dawnfall that made her lose one eye, and why her scar was there. But he figured that she would not answer, as it was most likely too personal, and he doubted she would answer. Instead, he stood up and licked his pelt clean. "Thank you, Dawnfall. I will make make sure that the other Clans know about this. I will tell Redstar about it, and ask if she could mention it at the gathering."
